Integrated workpiece changer on milling machine
The new Mikron HSM 400 incorporates an integrated workpiece changer, enabling unmanned operation and offering purchasers vital competitive-edge benefits in productivity and cost/part
The Swiss-based company, part of the Agie Charmilles Group, found HSM and five-axis machining topping the MACH agenda, with visitors wanting to learn more about how they can machine ever more complex parts faster.
During the show, Mikron claimed one of MACH's top awards, won by its HSM 400U machine.
This took the international machine tool industry award for best metal cutting machine tool (prismatic).
The world's first truly high-speed - machining centre, the HSM 400U's award recognised its ground-breaking capabilities.
These allow manufacturers to break beyond the limits traditionally associated with three axis HSM and achieve dynamic performance on all five axes simultaneously with a range of speeds and feeds to make the most complex machining of materials economical.
The HSM 400U can achieve spindle speeds up to 60,000rev/min with feeds up to 40m/min.
Following the award, interest in Mikron surged further with visitors to the stand particularly keen to learn more about machining centres capable of true HSM and how these operate effectively at spindle speeds above 40,000rev/min.
On top of the award, Mikron also received orders for machines worth more than GBP 330,000 at MACH, including its HSM 800 high-speed machining centre, its VCP 800 high performance centre, which it displayed at MACH, and the UCP 600 universal centre.
Mikron's managing director Glynn Fletcher said true HSM, five-axis capacity and the ability to combine both, topped most show visitors' enquiries, with toolmakers spurred on by a desire to increase efficiency and quality rather than expand capacity.
"The interest we received really outstripped our expectations and the number of genuine enquiries shows that the industry is in a healthier state than certainly we had imagined.
It also shows how the industry is alive to the need to improve and invest in production to make more complex parts more quickly".
On top of the award and orders, 665 serious sales enquiries capped a highly successful MACH for Mikron and the Agie Charmilles Group, which claimed another winner and two further commendations in the machine tool industry awards.
