PRC Powerrod actuators from Micromech combine the speed of a belt-drive system with the accuracy of a precision screw axis and the reliability of a linear motor.
The PRC Powerrod actuators from Micromech combine the speed of a belt-drive system with the accuracy of a precision screw axis and the reliability of a linear motor.
This follows the recent launch of the PRA actuators with the same form factor, integral position feedback and large air gap.
The PRC motor components consist of an IP67 rated forcer and a sealed stainless-steel thrust rod enclosing rare-earth magnets.
There are four models that deliver a continuous force of 51 to 102N with peak forces of 312 to 780N, with acceleration up to 256m/s2 and speeds up to 8.7m/s.
Alternative thrust rods are available; standard sizes are in travel lengths up to 1200mm and customised lengths up to 2000mm.
No external encoder is required as this comes integrally with the position output in the form of standard 1V peak-peak sin/cos signals.
The load is mounted directly to the forcer typically supported by one bearing rail and the thrust rod is mounted at both ends, similar to a ballscrew.
A large air gap reduces alignment constraints.
The tubular motor's thermal efficiency means heat is radiated uniformly so high duty cycles are possible without forced-air or water-cooling.
The compact design makes for simple mechanical integration where all the units are set-up to be integrated into existing drives.
Requiring no maintenance or adjustment, they can be mounted directly to the load and used in pick-and-place gantries, automated assembly and general purpose material handling machines.
