Metool Products has completed a comprehensive re-engineering of its range of torque regulator drive cable reels, making the design simpler, more efficient and more economical.

The new range, known as Metorq TR, combines standard AC or DC motors and heavy-duty mechanical drives with an extensive choice of power and torque configurations.

Standard components are used throughout and slip rings, cable compartments and drive units are all of modular design for simple, cost-efficient production and a wide range of customer options.

The cable compartment is directly mounted on the torque regulator unit which is easily adjustable to suit all the various combinations of cable size and length.

Variations in the reeling speed required for different applications are simply achieved by fitting an appropriate stock motor, while the rotational speed of the output spindle exceeds that required for cable reeling, so that correct cable retrieval is always achieved.

A further advantage of Metool's torque regulator design is that its advanced friction principles enable it to accommodate speed differentials during reeling and ensure stable performance in all operating conditions.

The standard brake function incorporated in Metorq TR reels effectively eliminates the risk of cable loss, but the reels can also be supplied with a brake motor option.

There is a modular range of payout controls and slip rings range from 10 to 400A, insulated to 11kV maximum.

In the process of redesigning the range, Metool has reviewed all suppliers and rationalised in order to incorporate a high proportion of standard components offering high technology and best value, while enhancing overall performance, durability and maintainability.

The use of standard components also helps to ensure quick delivery.

Metorq TR features stainless-steel fasteners and fixings throughout and paint finishes to suit extreme environments.

This, together with their ease of maintenance and installation, makes Metorq reels particularly suitable for arduous and remote installations.
