Phlox Corp has signed an exclusive distribution agreement in the UK and Ireland with Multipix Imaging.

Phlox Corp has signed an exclusive distribution agreement in the UK and Ireland with Multipix Imaging.

The Phlox lighting technique is a patented backlight technology using an ultraflat 1 to 12mm thick PMMA, lit by a linear source (discrete elements - LED).

Luminance can be up to 25% brighter than scattering or refraction technologies and Phlox allows over 90% of the light entering the panel to be uniformly emitted from it.

Phlox was developed first in France for the visual communications market, where new fields of applications quickly became apparent.

Including industrial lighting, medical and machine vision.

The patented CO2 laser machine engraves the PMMA or optical glass pipe, which is lit by a linear source, such as FO, LED or CCFL.

This machine engraves micro prisms in the PMMA according to a deterministic mathematical model based on the combined scattering and refraction laws of the material.

The light is injected in the edges of the PMMA in a very specific way the combination of the engraving and light injection technique enhances the light intensity and the uniformity of the backlight.

There are a number of advantages from this new style of backlight, including: extended lifetime over 50kh; uniform light up 90%; heat free operation, with a maximum 40C (Phlox requires fewer LEDs); and lower power consumption - less than 500mA on standard sizes.

Julie Busby, Technical Director of Multipix Imaging comments.

"We are delighted to have signed this exclusive agreement with Phlox Corporation.

With a number of advantages to this patented technology, including a lifetime over 50,000 hours, heat free and a low power consumption, Phlox will offer a new angle to lighting in difficult applications".
