Maelstrom is now importing economy versions of its successful Distromix range of batch and inline mixers to customers in Europe.

Maelstrom APT's patented range of Distromix high shear mixers is now available at Chinese prices In a licensing and manufacturing deal with Yiyang Rubber and Plastics Machinery Group, part of the giant state-owned ChemChina Group, Maelstrom is now importing economy versions of its successful Distromix range of batch and inline mixers to customers in Europe

Based on proprietary FDM technology, Distromix machines are rotor-stator mixers that use inter-cavity transfer and hydraulic shear to generate up to five times the mixing energy in the fluid compared with conventional rotor-stator machines.

This allows finer droplets and particles, improved de-agglomeration of solids and more stable emulsions to be achieved.

The increased performance also speeds up processing times and increased throughput for higher efficiency.

Special purpose and customised Distromix units will continue to be made in the UK but most machines in the standard range from laboratory mixers through to large 75kW batch and inline production units are now available from China with full CE marking and ATEX certification, as required.

For several years, Distromix machines have been in use in many industries in the UK from pharmaceutical and foods through to petrochemical, paints and coatings.

Although appreciated for their high performance and quality, the UK-manufactured cost of the machines has been a barrier to wider adoption.

"The combination of high performance and extremely competitive pricing is the spur we believe that many UK process companies need to upgrade their mixing systems", says Peter Brown, Managing Director of Maelstrom.

"Shifting from batch to higher efficiency inline processing and replacing substandard mixers with low-cost Distromix units can bring huge improvements in quality and savings in running costs".

"The great aspect of this new range of Distromix machines from China is that the larger the machine, the more you save over typical European prices".

"Savings of up to 70% can be made in terms of capital cost".
