Jargon buster cuts through the ATEX jungle
ABB has published an "ATEX jargon buster" that helps motor users cut through the jungle of terms and definitions that make up the new ATEX Directives.
The net employment outlook (the balance of employers forecasting to take on more staff) for the manufacturing sector is +14%, indicating that employers plan to have a considerable increase in the number of staff on their books in the quarter ahead.
This represents a quarter on quarter increase of 6% points and a year on year increase of 7%.
Comments Tony Howard, Managing Director at Manpower: "Our historical data shows that the manufacturing sector is traditionally an extremely volatile sector for jobs.
This is the first time that the net job outlook has been above the national average in the last 5 years".
"This moderate increase in hiring intentions can be attributed to the subsectors which make up manufacturing: quarter on quarter increases are significant in food and beverages, textiles, automotive and other manufacturing.
Year on year increases are particularly high among food and beverages and automotive.
Our hope is that this increase is an indication of more job prospects for the sector in time to come", concludes Howard.
The overall national average for employment prospects for the quarter ahead across 11 regions and eight industry sectors is +13%.
Therefore manufacturing's net employment outlook sits 2% points above this figure.
Manufacturing is also the only sector to have both a quarter on quarter and year on year increase.
Other industry sectors are showing a range of results.
Electricity, gas and water supply is the best performing sector of the eight surveyed whereas transport, storage and communications is at the bottom of the league table with a net balance of -5%.
Sectors which sit above the national average, joining community and social services include: utilities, construction, hotel and restaurants and manufacturing.
