Safety switches prevent tampering

A Moeller Electric product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jan 7, 2008

The LS range includes switches with separate actuators, door switches with spring or magnet-powered retained actuators and switches for hasp and hinge operation.

LS safety position switches from Moeller Electric offer a simple, efficient and cost-effective way of achieving enhanced protection for personnel and processes.

They combine versatility with multicoded actuators that provide a high degree of protection against tampering.

The LS range includes switches with separate actuators, door switches with spring or magnet-powered retained actuators and switches for hasp and hinge operation.

Offering IP65 ingress protection to ensure reliable operation even in harsh environments, all switches in the range have operating heads that can be rotated through 4 x 90 degrees, giving a wide choice of installation options.

In addition, the switches feature double-break contacts that are configured to ensure their suitability for use in redundant safety circuits.

The contacts are interlocked and positively driven, as prescribed by IEC/EN 60947-5-1, and are suitable for use with electronic devices, such as programmable controllers, in line with the requirements of IEC/EN 61131-2.

Complying with EN 1088, type LS4-ZB and LS-ZB safety switches have separate nonretained actuators and are suitable for use with gearbox covers, press guards and in similar applications.

With LS4-ZB switches, the actuator can be inserted from either side of the operating head, which allows horizontal or vertical mounting of the switch.

With LS-ZB switches the actuator can be inserted from all four sides of the head or from above.

For applications involving the securing and interlocking of protective doors and guards, Moeller Electric offers LS-ZBZ switches, which have retained actuators.

The magnet-powered types are interlocked when the voltage is applied and can therefore be opened in the event of a power failure.

The spring-powered types ensure that the door or guard remains safely interlocked in the event of a power failure and in an emergency the protective guard is released using an auxiliary release mechanism.

A choice of six different actuators is offered and the switches are provided with a secondary contact for monitoring purposes.

Type LSR/TS hinge-operated and LSR/TKG hasp-operated switches are designed for use with doors and hinged flaps.

These switches immediately disconnect the power supply following any attempt to open a protected door or flap and a movement of just 5 degrees results in actuation, making tampering impossible.

The operating lever of the LSR/TKG hasp-operated switches can easily be configured on site to suit the precise needs of the application.
