Metal-cased shaft seals suit tough duties

A Moontown product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 4, 2004

A range of metal-cased rotary shaft seals caters for more arduous gas and liquid sealing applications.

To complement its current range of PTFE spring energised and machined rotary shaft seals, Moontown offers a range of metal cased rotary shaft seals for more arduous gas and liquid sealing applications.

With stainless-steel or mild-steel case options and a choice of modified PTFE lips materials, these versatile products can be used in a wide range of applications, bridging the gap between conventional rubber shaft seals and mechanical seals.

Shaft speeds up to 30m/s can be supported, with 100bar tolerance for applications such as hydraulic pumps and motors.

The food and drugs industries can benefit from the use of food-approved materials and a high chemical resistance can be provided.

Improved sealing of gases and abrasive media can be achieved using higher lip loads whilst shaft misalignment can be accommodated with additional spring loading.

Typical temperature tolerance range is from -20 to +250C.

Typically made to suit DIN3760 gland sizes, nonstandard sizes and special designs can be offered on request.
