New connectors from Molex for use with SD memory cards - the latest evolution in miniature digital data storage

Molex has introduced a new range of connectors for use with Secure Digital (SD) Memory Cards.

The cards, that represent the latest evolution in miniature digital data storage, are used in products such as Personal Digital Organisers (PDAs), portable audio players, digital cameras and cellular phones.

The connectors, are designed to handle industry standard SD Memory Cards with a capacity of up to 64MB, they incorporate card detect and write protect switch functions to enable secure downloading of digital data such as audio or image files.

Connectors are offered in top and bottom mount styles and are only 3.10mm (0.122in) high.

Metal grounding covers that provide EMI/RFI protection are incorporated into the design.

There is also a unique 'push-push' eject system to enable easy card insertion/extraction and secure card retention.

Other features include offset terminals for first make-last break capability, and bevelled spring contacts for secure mating retention.

The 2.50mm (0.098") pitch connectors are rated at 0.5A and can withstand up to 10,000 cycles.

They are supplied on embossed tape ready for automatic board mounting.

SD Memory provides digital data storage on a postage stamp size card.

It is designed to meet the removable data storage needs of today's compact, portable, digital electronic equipment.

SD Card technology is an open standard supported by the SD Association, which represents over 175 member.
