Sterling Steel Company has signed a contract with Morgan Construction Company for the design, manufacture and installation of Morgan's patented Stelmor controlled cooling conveyor in its single-strand rod mill.

John Foley, General Manager, Contract Administration, said that the order includes not only the mechanical equipment, but also the electrical motors, drives and controls as well as the turnkey installation of the project.

Sterling, a subsidiary of Leggett and Plant, will operate the mill, formerly owned and operated by Northwestern Steel and Wire Co.

When the project is completed in February 2003, the mill will produce wire rod with improved metallurgical properties.

These rod products will be used by the other operations of Leggett and Platt, a diversified manufacturer of a broad variety of engineered components and products.
