Morgan Construction Company and Badische Stahl-Engineering (BSE) of Germany are to work together to market "multi-slit technology".

Michael Eldredge, Director, Rolling Mill Engineering, explained that this technology: "consists of equipment, engineering and operations knowhow for the multiple slitting rolling process".

He continued, "This unique rolling process has been in operation at BSE's affiliated company, Badische Stahlwerke, in Kehl, Germany since 1984, and implemented at various facilities around the world since 1995.

"Under the terms of the new partnership", he said, "BSE will provide its technical knowhow and expertise related to the operation of this proven process, while Morgan will be responsible for marketing, designing, producing, and installing the necessary Morgan equipment, in support of the worldwide steel market".

The Morgan-BSE multiple slitting process involves the production of multiple bars in a rolling mill starting from a single billet.

The equipment, which is necessary to slit the bar, will be supplied by Morgan's Spares and Guides Division.

Eldredge added that the Morgan-BSE multiple slitting process enables producers to lower their capital costs in as much as a limited number of stands are required for the production of high tonnage.

The model of the Morgan-BSE slitting package at the BSW plant in Kehl, Germany, produces in excess of 600,000t per year with a mill having 16 stands and a cooling bed.
