Bearings to upgrade Turkish plate mill

The Morgoil Bearing Division of Morgan Construction Company has received a contract from Eregli Demir ve Celik Fabrikalari to upgrade the chocks and bearings on its Mesta plate mill.

The Morgoil Bearing Division of Morgan Construction Company has received a contract from Eregli Demir ve Celik Fabrikalari, of Eregli, Turkey, to upgrade the chocks and bearings on its Mesta plate mill.

The contract, obtained by Morgan-Europe, the company's Sheffield, England, based European subsidiary, calls for the modernisation of a mill Erdemir purchased from International Steel Group, Sparrows Point, in Baltimore, USA, which will be relocated to Turkey.

Steve Lidgate, Managing Director of Morgan Europe, in announcing the contract, said: "The modernisation will include the reconditioning of the existing backup chocks, supply of new bearing components, including hydrostatic bushings, and the reconditioning and modification of existing sleeves.

In addition", he continued, "the modernisation will include the addition of Morgoil's patented LD locks.

When completed, the upgrade will provide the mill with improved rolling performance and bearing life", he said.

Engineering and manufacturing will be completed at the company's Worcester, Massachusetts, headquarters, with delivery scheduled for September 2004.
