Chinese mill awards major contract

Morgan Construction Company has been awarded the contract for a rod outlet and two compactors for a new single strand rod mill under construction in China.

Morgan Construction Company has been awarded the contract for a rod outlet and two compactors for a new single strand rod mill under construction for Zhejiang Yuanli Metal Product Group in Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China.

Morgan's operations in both Worcester and Shanghai will manufacture the components, which include a No Twist mill, pinch roll, laying head, nozzle and trough assemblies, guides and compactors.

Morgan is will also be responsible for the engineering design for all equipment from the exit of the prefinishing mill to the exit of the reform station.

"We're pleased that Zhejiang Yuanli recognised the value of installing Morgan's superior and proven technology in their new mill", noted Joe Lawendowski, Manager Proposal and Technical Sales, in announcing the contract.

"Our rod outlet will allow this customer to enter the rod market producing 5.5 to 20mm plain rod and 6 to 16mm ribbed bar at a 100% mill rolling rate of 150t/h with a guarantee speed of 105 m/s and design speed of 120m/s".

The equipment will be supplied in the first quarter of 2007.
