Ovako Wire is to upgrade its wire rod mill in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands, with new high-speed equipment from Morgan Construction Company.

Under the terms of the multi-million-dollar contract, Morgan will provide a reducing sizing mill, two shears with an uplooper, five housingless stands and eight gearboxes.

Once installed, the new equipment will increase the mill's roll rate to 100m/s.

The mill will also increase its billet size from 125 to 160mm.

"This new layout for Ovako offers them far greater flexibility", said Mike McCaffrey, Project Manager for Morgan.

"With a wider variety of billet sizes to process, they can broaden their product range to meet customer demand".

The upgrade design also features proprietary electrical systems to improve cut accuracy and reduce maintenance costs for the mill.

Delivery of the equipment is expected in late summer 2007.

Morgan has a long-standing relationship with Ovako and its predecessor company, Fundia Steel Management Services.

The mill's existing No-Twist Mill was originally installed by Morgan in 1964 by Mike Shore, Senior Vice President of Engineering.
