The Accelera Series is all about speed.
Some of the stand out features of the specification are: accepts encoder inputs up to 22MHz (compared with 12MHz for Optima); outputs stepper pulses up to 6MHz (compared with 3MHz for Optima); servo update rates as low as 24us per axis (compared with 62.5us for Optima); and command execution speeds as low as 40us (compared with 400us for Optima).
The first product to be released as part of the Accelera series is the new DMC-18x6 PCIbus motion controller.
Although it offers performance enhancements over MotionLink's prior generation DMC-18x0 PCI controllers, the programming language and 100-pin SCSI connector remain virtually the same, making conversion to the DMC-18x6 quick and easy.
Like the DMC-18x0, the new DMC-18x6 is available in one- to eight-axis formats.
For example, a DMC-1836 would be specified for a three-axis project and the DMC-1856 would be used for a five-axis project.
Other features similar to the DMC-18x0 include: optically isolated inputs; eight uncommitted analogue inputs; and dual encoder inputs for servo axes.
The DMC-18x6 features eight uncommitted digital inputs and eight uncommitted digital outputs for the one- to four-axis models, and 24 inputs and 16 outputs for the five- to eight-axis models.
Expansion for 64 more I/O is available with the optional DB-14064 board.
The DMC-18x6 provides expanded memory for variables, arrays and storing application programs.
Memory size is now 2000 lines (compared with 1000 lines for DMC-18x0).
The number of array elements has been doubled to 16,000.
Similar to the DMC-18x0, the DMC-18x6 uses a 100-pin SCSI cable, with one 100-pin cable required for each set of four axes.
Galil's ICM-2900 interconnect module breaks out the cable into screw terminals.
As necessary, Galil's AMP-19540 four-axis servo drive is available for driving brush or brushless motors up to 500W.
