Mercury IMC's new Mercury Operator Terminal can be used around flammable vapours and dust hazards.

Mercury IMC have launched a new version of its Mercury Operator Terminal The Mercury 2+ is a form, fit and function replacement for the Mercury 2e

Designed for use in Hazardous areas, its rugged construction and Intrinsically Safe certification enable it to be used in Zone 0 (Div 1) locations, in the presence of flammable vapours and gases, and Zone 1 in the presence of dust hazards, within an operating temperature range of -20C to 60C.

The Mercury 2+ is simple to install, easy to use and maintenance-free.

These characteristics, combined with its suitability for areas where wash down procedures are required, make the Mercury 2+ the ideal product for year-round outside use, even in the harshest environment.

Optional plug-ins, for such applications as personnel access checking or batch recipe selection, include the high-security Weigand card reader.

Other card reader options available are the EM, Mifare and HID Proximity card readers.

The Mercury 2+ retains the look and feel of the Mercury 2e and is fully compatible with all existing installations, whilst offering improved performance through the use of entirely new electronics and firmware.

This has been rewritten in a modular form to allow greater flexibility for the customer.

The new enhanced features of the Mercury 2+ include an adaptive back-light for maximum brightness, the ability to field upgrade the firmware, faster serial communications speeds of up to 115.2Kbaud, and much faster internal processing allowing rapid graphics redraws.

It also offers character-set support to allow for non-Roman alphabets, including Cyrillic and Thai.

Modbus is now a standard facility and three digital inputs are provided for use with proximity sensors, switches or other simple apparatus.

It also comes with two fully isolated digital outputs.

To make full use of these enhanced features a new interface module is available.

The R507 IS Interface module is a Safe Area DIN rail mounted device which provides intrinsically safe power and communications signals to the Hazardous area.

The unit provides galvanic isolation between the field mounted hazardous area equipment and the safe area 24V power supply and communication ports.

Designed specifically for the Mercury 2+ it allows high-speed communications over distances of up to 1km into the hazardous area.
