Novel design improves blind riveting

A first class job turned out every time is the boast from Masterfix for its new PLIA range of standard rivets.

A first class job turned out every time is the boast from Masterfix for its new PLIA range of standard rivets.

A technique originally developed for industry has now been implemented into a standard range.

The PLIA range avoids a number of problems that can occur with other standard rivets.

Each rivet has a hole-filling property, and so the size of the predrilled hole is less critical.

As a bulb is formed on the blind side, the rivet always deforms correctly, even if the chosen rivet appears to be too long.

After setting, the mandrel is retained in the rivet, thus giving a (drip-) waterproof connection.

A large bulb is formed at the back, spreading the clamping load over a wide area.

This makes PLIA also suitable for thin sheet and soft materials.

And PLIA rivets have a large clamping capacity, so a significant reduction of stock can be achieved.

PLIA rivets have many uses, including all applications for standard rivets: repair works, furniture industry, automotive, houshold appliances, air-conditioning, combinations of hard and soft materials etc.

All sizes are manufactured from aluminium (AlMg 2,5) with a steel mandrel, with diameters of 3.0, 3.2, 4.0 and 4.8mm and lengths from 6 to 30mm.

A range of different head shapes is available, including dome, (extra) large flange and countersunk.
