Morgan Advanced Ceramics has developed a new ceramic form for metal component manufacture.
Morgan Advanced Ceramics has developed a new ceramic form for metal component manufacture.
Unlike traditional high end alloy forms the ceramic alternative, which is based on a chrome oxide/alumina or chrome oxide/silica composite, can be used for components up to 1.5m in length, without cracking or fissures and to a tolerance of +/-0.1%.
In addition to offering increased flexibility of design, the high thermal conductivity and stability of the ceramic means it retains its shape for longer than high-end alloy.
This, combined with the ability to release the finished component without excessive use of release agents and minimal attack to the metal surface finish, means it will reduce associated manufacturing costs by up to 50%.

Already being used by one of the largest manufacturers of commercial and military aircraft in the world, the material is also being assessed by manufacturers in other industries, including automotive, chemical processing and molten metal processing who can also benefit from the material's superior qualities.
