Alumina-silicate material has excellent thermal properties which means flatness is maintained in ceramic thin tile kilns, resulting in a high-quality finish.

Ceramic rollers from Yixing Haldenwanger Fine Ceramics, a business of Morgan Technical Ceramics, have been successfully installed in the first ceramic thin tile kiln in China The rollers enable thin tiles to be manufactured that are 15% thinner and one-third the weight of competing tiles

As a result, tile manufacturers are able to reduce energy and consumption of raw materials.

SM90 ceramic rollers are 30mm diameter and up to 2900mm in length, and enable the production of tiles up to 900 x 1800mm in size with a thickness between 3.5 and 5mm.

The alumina-silicate (Sillimantin) material has excellent thermal properties which means the tile flatness can be maintained in the kiln, resulting in a high-quality finish.

The kiln, made by China's largest ceramic equipment supplier, Keda Industrial Company, was put into production in Guangdong Monalisa in October 2007.

"We are delighted that the installation of the ceramic rollers has been successful", says Jeffrey Zhang, General Manager, Yixing Haldenwanger.

"There is genuine industry demand for thin tiles and by using our rollers, tile manufacturers can meet this demand as well as meeting the environmental regulations of the Construction Ceramic Policy set by the Chinese Government".

The ceramic rollers originally developed by Morgan Technical Ceramics' Haldenwanger business in Germany, are used all over the world and are renowned for their durability in a wide range of specialist applications.

As well as Sillimantin rollers that are used in the roller kilns for firing wall and floor tiles, the company manufactures fused silica rollers, which are used in temper furnaces used in the manufacture of flat safety glass for the construction industry.
