Resin provides a green alternative
Mamco is using Valox IQ for both its precision moulding products and precision pressure switches.
Mamco now offers its precision switches and precision mouldings made from Valox IQ, a plastic made from 87% post-consumer waste.
Since 1964, Mamco has been providing customised moulded components and subassemblies that have been used in sensors, control systems and switches for companies in diverse industries.
After developing its own pressure switch line in 2004, the company started to look for "green" ways of manufacturing to better preserve the environment.
Mamco has received RoHS and ISO9001certification, and has received UL and CE approval.
Now Sabic Innovative Plastics (formerly GE Plastics) has released a material that can stand up to tough technical expectations yet has a low carbon footprint and consumes as much as 87% of post-consumer content.
And Mamco is using Valox IQ for both its precision moulding products and precision pressure switches.
Benefits cited for using the new plastic include solid waste reduction, reduced CO2 emissions and reduced energy consumption.
A tonne of Valox IQ resins: consumes 872kg of post-consumer solid waste; reduces CO2 emissions by 1.7 to 2.2kg compared with standard PBT; and consumes 8.5 barrels of oil less than standard PBT (allowing for feedstock and fuel).
Yet Valox IQ resin has a far higher impact strength than PBT.
