Makita is doubling the warehouse capacity at its Milton Keynes HQ to meet the accelerating demands of its customers throughout the UK.

Makita is doubling the warehouse capacity at its Milton Keynes HQ to meet the accelerating demands of its customers throughout the UK A further 7000m2 stock holding and distribution facility is under construction alongside the existing warehouse, which was established in 1993

This new project, costing GBP 3.5million, is due to be operational in February 2007 to relieve the stock holding capacity restrictions that has recently hindered sales deliveries as Makita's market share continues to grow.

"We knew we had expansion capability when we built the original distribution centre on this site in 1993 and in 2005 we could see that we were at our limit to meet our customer needs for immediate despatch so the project was given the go-ahead", says Terry Bicker, Operations Consultant.

The new 7000m2 warehouse is a design and build contract with Takenaka Europe - Makita's global facility partner.

New design and systems features have been incorporated in line with the latest D4 planning policies of Milton Keynes District Council.

Although the main structure is steel and steel profile cladding to meet the aesthetic regulations, internal systems such as the recycled wood pellet fired heating boiler, movement sensor control of lighting and drainage system results in the building achieving a 10% renewable energy target.

When the doubling of Makita's warehouse capacity comes on stream in February 2007 the next phase of market expansion will be underway.
