The MTL8000 system, designed to address process application needs in general purpose and hazardous areas, has now been installed in five Shell UK Exploration and Production gas platforms.
Power supplies are fit for fieldbus
MTL's 9122-IS and 9121-IS Fisco power supplies have passed rigorous testing for integration into the DeltaV digital automation system that is part of the PlantWeb architecture.
The project will offer significant savings with the original installation followed by lower maintenance costs over the plant's life.
The project includes control system and field device retrofits, and commissioning of BDP advanced control strategies for automatic rate processing management, enhanced C1/C2 composition control, and improved chiller efficiency management.
Barry D Payne and Associates is a system integrator with advanced process control expertise, and the advanced control strategies will be incorporated in MOST's Matrix Total Control System to optimise the plant's performance.

Control components simply "snap together"
MOST, short for MTL Open System Technologies, has been established to provide open hardware and software technology-based components for use in the most demanding real-time system applications.
Open control platform simplifies software porting
A novel OEM control platform is aimed at control companies who want to port their control or SoftPLC software onto a real process platform.
"We were able to incorporate advanced control algorithms in the Matrix controller using function block programming", said Barry Payne, BDP President.
Matrix offers superior redundancy, with instantaneous switchover to a backup controller when necessary.
Matrix is an open system that readily enables connection to third-party devices with Modbus and as Matrix uses Wonderware as its native HMI, it will incorporate Wonderware's latest features as they become available.
The Matrix system offers a centralised project development environment for all control project engineering (process and IEC61131-3), which is seamlessly integrated with Wonderware's FactorySuite components for operator interface, plant historian and batch control.
Matrix is an open, easy-to-use process control engineering and management solution that automatically configures control solutions ranging from straightforward, single loops to advanced control strategies.
Matrix's unique integrated project development environment coordinates all control project engineering for the design, implementation, documentation and maintenance of a process control system.
The Matrix Workbench automatically maintains the project documentation in the as-built state from the initial engineering phases through subsequent system modifications.
Project documentation is continually kept current to the operating control system, eliminating the tedious task of maintaining documentation after a system has been commissioned.
This project brings together the strengths of MOST's Matrix product offering and Barry D Payne and Associates' advanced control capabilities and project management services.
