When purchasing a Mitutoyo QV Quick Vision Measuring Machine, Peterson Springs realised that a full training package from Mitutoyo would enable the best possible results to be obtained

Being fully committed to quality, Peterson Springs understands that employee training is imperative if production to a high standard is to be consistently maintained.

When purchasing a Mitutoyo QV Quick Vision Measuring Machine, the company realised that a full training package from Mitutoyo would enable the best possible results to be obtained by all operators from the new state-of-the-art equipment.

Initially five Peterson employees were trained by Mitutoyo on all aspects of the Quick Vision machine.

The course took place over a period of three days at the Mitutoyo training centre in Warwick, where small class sizes, combined with plentiful hands-on experience with the most technically advanced equipment, mean that attendees become equipped to deal with the problems faced in today's workplace.

Following the training of the first five operators, a trainer from Mitutoyo spent time at Peterson Springs, working with the operators on the shop floor using the actual QV, measuring actual components and was therefore able to see any problems likely to be encountered on the Peterson production line.

Peterson Springs manufactures all types of precision springs, sub-assemblies and presswork from a variety of materials for a whole range of industries.

The Redditch, Worcestershire, based company has quality approvals that include Ford Q1, MOD AWAP4 and ISO 9002/EN 29002.

Since training the initial five operators, Mitutoyo has since trained another Peterson employee as a trainer who is now able to provide instruction on the Quick Vision machine to other operators when required, with at least 15 people now being able to operate the machine.

Mrs Mavis Yates, Training Manager for Peterson Springs says.

"The training received from Mitutoyo has improved our production no-end.

We now have a lot of people with new skills they didn't have before.

We bought the machine because we wanted the latest equipment available and Mitutoyo helped us train our staff - we've been very pleased with the whole package." Peterson utilises the QV to inspect samples regularly taken from its production lines throughout each shift.

Over 70 jobs are now programmed into the machine, allowing automatic inspection to be quickly carried out on a wide range of components, thereby giving great time savings, compared to the more traditional inspection methods using equipment such as projects, calipers, and micrometers previously used by the company.
