There has never been a better time to catch up with the recent advances in technology that will be unveiled at this year's MACH exhibition.

With all signs pointing towards growth in the UK's manufacturing sector, there has never been a better time to catch up with the recent advances in technology that will be unveiled at this year's MACH exhibition taking place from 19th to 23rd April at the NEC in Birmingham According to the EEF's latest business trends survey, Britain's manufacturers experienced their strongest growth in seven years in the first quarter of this year, with growth expected to strengthen further through 2004 and into 2005

They also revised their growth forecasts, with engineering set to grow by 3.4% and manufacturing by 2.4% this year and even further next year.

MACH is well-timed to provide manufacturers with vital new technology to keep up with demand, whilst keeping production costs down.

The exhibition has over 400 exhibitors occupying an impressive 25,500m2 of space, showing the very latest metal-cutting and metal-forming machine tools, CAD/CAM, metrology, tooling, software, automation, robotics, welding and metal fabrication equipment - much of which will be on show for the very first time.

As well as being able to see a wealth of products and technologies, new initiatives introduced this year will enable visitors to hear, first-hand, about leading-edge technologies, at the free seminars organised by MTA and sponsored by Metalworking Production.

Speakers include leading names from industry and academia who will address subjects such as advances in materials, new developments in EDM and cutting tools, changes in joining techniques and sources of regional assistance for manufacturers.

The seminars can accommodate 60 delegates at each session and are sure not only to educate, but inspire.

Encouraging more school and college leavers to make a career in manufacturing is the aim of the Student Initiative at MACH 2004.

The Initiative has the support of many MACH exhibitors who will be giving short presentations to invited groups of students visiting on 19th and 23rd April.

In addition, there will be a special Student Information area, where participating companies will be posting news about training and job opportunities within their own companies for the students.

In addition, the views and thoughts of visitors to the event will be canvassed each day in a brand new feature called "Your industry, your views".

Touchscreens around the halls will ask the visitors their views on specific issues - as MACH is a focus for UK manufacturing, this is a prime opportunity to gather the views of the people that count.

The special focus areas and pavilions at MACH will also be a major highlight of the event housing a wealth of new innovations and technologies.

Covering CAD/CAM, automation and robotics, measurement and inspection, engineering lasers and marking, metalforming, welding and metal fabrication and tooling, the areas will provide visitors with the opportunity to meet and discuss solutions to manufacturing problems with leading companies from all over the world.

"With market conditions appearing to improve, it has never been more important for manufacturers to visit MACH to see how they can take advantage of the new products and technologies that have been developed over the past two years", says Simon Brown, Director General of the MTA.

"Maintaining competitiveness is crucial to every company's survival, and as there will be so much on show at MACH, visitors are sure to see technologies that will inspire new ideas and provide real improvements to manufacturing processes".
