The MTA is expanding its office in China for the third time in 10 years The expansion of its facility in Beijing is to cope with demand from companies who wish to open a base in the country and benefit from the technical support, cultural knowledge and knowledge of local agents that is provided by MTA staff based in the Beijing office

This office also provides support and expertise to MTA's Business Development Unit, headed up by David Bromige, which last week hosted an inward mission from Chinese companies, looking to do business in the UK.

Ten senior representatives from nine companies had the opportunity to discuss possible business opportunities with 16 MTA member companies.

The companies represented included machine tool companies and end users from the aerospace sector in China.

The aim of this mission was to generate future business and to build Anglo-Chinese relationships.

Other emerging markets in which the MTA is active include Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic, India and Mexico.

Activities including outward missions, seminars and market intelligence reports are all undertaken to aid members to do business in these countries.

Some of these activities also attract part funding from UK Trade and Investment.
