Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 22, 2005

Flying the flag for British industry at EMO Hanover was Ian Pearson, the UK Minister for Trade, Foreign Affairs and Investment.

Ian Pearson, UK Minister for Trade, Foreign Affairs and Investment, attended EMO Hanover as a guest of the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA), who invited him to spend time talking to UK exhibitors at the show to find out more about what government can do to address their business needs.

The Minister spent time at the event, which was held on 14-21 September 2005, touring around companies.

He also attended a lunch with twelve senior representatives from UK companies.

Speaking at a press conference, Pearson said: 'The UK's advanced manufacturing technologies are the key to competitive manufacturing'.

'The UK and Europe alike must compete on the basis of high value and high skill using high technology to confront the challenges in the global economy if we are to remain competitive'.

'I am pleased to be here at EMO, the world's largest trade show to represent so many highly innovative British businesses and companies'.

The visit to EMO by Ian Pearson was the first by a UK Trade Minister for many decades and was widely welcomed by exhibiting UK companies.
