Speaking at the MTA Annual Dinner MTA President Stephen Panke introduced the inaugural MTA Award for Outstanding Contribution This award is presented to members of the association who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to benefit the association over many years

Announcing the winners, who had not been informed in advance, Panke said: "Our first recipient is Group Managing Director (Europe) for one of our leading machine tool producers".

"He was Honorary Treasurer of the MTA for more than a decade and was Vice President for 4 years".

"Our second winner is a Past President who has run and chairs his own machine tool manufacturing company, has sat on our Council for over 20 years and continues to represent the MTA at CECIMO, the European Machine Tool Manufacturers Organisation".

"Our original thought was only to honour volunteers from our member companies but our third recipient is in fact a member of staff who after more than a quarter of a century with our association is now retiring".

"He has been tireless in assisting our industry's export drive and has led countless inward and outward missions".

The inaugural winners of the MTA Silver Pin Award for Outstanding Contribution are: David Jack, Group Managing Director Europe of Yamazaki Mazak UK; Keith Bailey, Chairman of BSA Tools; and David Bromige, MTA Marketing and Business Development Manager.

The President also commended the DTI's Manufacturing Strategy in recognising the importance of manufacturing, but stressed the need for them to deliver on the competitiveness agenda.

Panke also stressed that the MTA is "happy and willing to work with everyone - a partnership in action to promote manufacturing".
