Trends survey reflects growing optimism
A trends survey for Q4 of 2005 showed orders recovering at the end of the year, a trend which the respondents expect to continue in the 2006.

Survey confirms seasonal dip in orders
The latest MTA trends survey shows a dip in orders for the sector over the summer, but respondents expect a recovery in the final period of the year.
The percentage balance for business confidence in Q4 2005 was +17%, led by a very positive outlook among the Machinery Manufacturers' Section; this compares with -8% in the third quarter.
Order intake was +3.8% higher than in the third quarter of the year; this trend was not shared across the association with the Machinery Manufacturers' Section showing a reduction in orders.
The Machinery Manufacturers' and Equipment Suppliers sections expect a higher level of orders in the first quarter of 2006 and, with the Machinery Importers' section expecting no change in the level of business, the respondents overall predict that orders will be +3.5% up on the fourth quarter of 2005.
MTA Director General, Andrew Manly commented: "As we go into the MACH year, it is clear that the suppliers of manufacturing technology are more confident of a positive trend in the market, both in the UK and overseas; the NEC in the middle of May is the place to be".
