MVTec Software has released a generic interface for FireWire cameras that supports the IEEE1394a as well as the IEEE1394b standard (with a transfer rate of 400 or 800 Mbit a second).

A wide range of FireWire cameras is now available in combination with the approved machine vision software products Halcon and ActivVisionTools.

FireWire is commonly used in industry as well as in consumer electronics.

The driver supports all camera calibres and parameters provided by the IIDC standard and runs also under Windows x64 and Windows Vista.

Furthermore, MVTec offers an according Halcon interface for Linux with comparable functionality.

The interface was tested on cameras from Allied Vision, Basler, NET, Point Grey, Prosilica, Sony, The Imaging Source, and Toshiba Teli.

The interface is usable with ActivVisionTools.
