Carbon fibre sleeves cut coupling weight

A Mayr Transmissions product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 23, 2005

Roba-DS torsionally rigid shaft couplings are now available with carbon fibre sleeves for drive applications where weight, length and environmental conditions dictate.

The innovative Roba-DS torsionally rigid shaft coupling range from Mayr Transmissions has been further developed to include carbon fibre sleeves for drive applications where weight, length and environmental conditions can be difficult to accommodate with normal steel couplings and spacer sleeves.

The Roba-DS carbon fibre sleeves allow optimum long span configurations with up to 70% weight saving over the conventional steel sleeve, minimising the need for shorter span couplings and intermediate bearings together with a reduction in inertia for high speed applications.

Due to the lower weight of the carbon fibre sleeves, the coupling is ideal for vertically mounted applications without excessive loading on the flexible membranes.

The maintenance free, corrosion resistant material together with the reduction in sleeve weight results in lower bearing loads, reducing the maintenance and operating costs of plant and machinery.

The Mayr Roba-DS coupling series covers the nominal torque range 60 to 14,000Nm using the patented Mayr membrane-hub, cone seating fixing principle.

Carbon fibre sleeves can be supplied for customer specific applications with stainless steel hubs if required.
