Fluctuating demand and changing shift patterns are characteristic of any ice cream manufacturer but with anticipated future growth, Cadwalader's called in the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) in Wales to align its production processes with current and projected output.
MAS provided the 100-strong company with a solution for a faster, more effective chilling process, and a higher capacity pasteurisation process.

New general manager for drives, motors, machines
Steve Ruddell is the new general manager of ABB's drives, motors and machines division in the UK.
Managing Director, Richard Gloster explains: "Our growth was being impeded by a bottleneck developing in the chilling process, so we needed to upgrade the system in order to complete the chilling procedure more rapidly".
"In addition, our pasteurisation process was not able to cope with our vastly increased volume and we realised this had to be reviewed if we were to continue our recent rapid growth".

MAS Wales is delivered by a consortium of private consultancy companies and is supported by the Welsh Development Agency and Welsh Assembly Government.
In the North, BIC innovation based in Bangor provides specific regional expertise.
Through BIC Innovation, MAS Wales can now directly support Welsh food manufacturers with performance and productivity improvements, expansion planning and strengthen their innovation and new product development processes.
"Small businesses tend to run out of quality management time and MAS took the problem of reorganising production processes away from us", explained Gloster.
Cadwalader's has now been able to expand its operations to include brand new outlets in England - the firm's first foray across the border.
Established by husband and wife team Dafydd and Hannah Cadwalader in 1927, the company remains a family run business manufacturing the same natural, full dairy recipe created nearly a century ago.
Its commitment to innovation has enabled it to stay ahead of the game, with Cadwalader's recently pioneering the UK's first gluten-free cone and marmite ripple flavoured ice cream.
