A new centre of excellence in design modelling and simulation has been launched by National Metals Technology Centre.

UK manufacturers will now be able to benefit from much-needed support in research and development as a new centre of excellence in design modelling and simulation has been launched by National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC) in partnership with Corus' Swindon Technology Centre (STC) The DMS centre, supported by Yorkshire Forward, will provide engineering solutions to regional companies faced with rising material and energy prices and continued exposure to competitive threats from lower wage economies

The centre, which is based in South Yorkshire, is designed to support the growth of regional and national manufacturers, giving them a competitive edge and assisting them in securing new high-value contracts.

Design Modelling and Simulation Centre Manager at NAMTEC Adam Beagles explains: "The new technical centre will allow manufacturers to access new state of the art simulation techniques at a fraction of the cost of developing new products and materials in-house".

"We are excited about what this means for the engineering and manufacturing community and we are hoping the centre will become a hub for research and development in engineering, materials and manufacturing modelling".

NAMTEC offers a bureau style modelling and simulation service, which will include the following: virtual reality techniques; casting and solidification; structural and life-modelling; thermomechanical process and heat treatment; energy management (furnace optimisation and control); and factory layout, product and process flow, scheduling.

NAMTEC is inviting manufacturers to see for themselves the positive impact that DMS technology can have on a business at a special event.

The Virtual Engineering Workshop, which will be held on 29th November at NAMTEC in Rotherham, will give businesses the chance to take a tour of the DMS centre and to hear from other manufacturers how the use of simulation techniques has made them more innovative, dynamic and productive.
