A National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC) product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Dec 7, 2006

The first Demonstration Day for Masmicro technology was a success, reports NAMTEC (The National Metals Technology Centre) which organised the international event in Stuttgart, Germany recently

The event was organised together with together with Fraunhofer Institut Produktionstechnik und Automatisierung and the University of Strathclyde.

Thirty six partners from thirteen EU countries showcased their results and uses of Masmicro technology demonstrating how it is the key to ensuring the future innovation and productivity of EU manufacturing businesses.

The event, which was attended by delegates from the USA, South America, Africa, India and across Europe, consisted of an exhibition and dissemination day alongside presentations and meetings to demonstrate the benefits of Masmicro technology to other manufacturers.

Helen King, NAMTEC's Project Manager explains: "This was the first international event for the Masmicro project and a great chance for the companies involved to demonstrate how the technology is helping them develop innovative new concepts and prototypes".

"We had a tremendous response both from exhibitors and delegates and the seminars encouraged in depth discussion and sharing of information".

"There were some excellent alliances and partnerships formed that should result in the further development of the Masmicro technology for the benefit of all organisations involved in the future".

Masmicro is a four year project, funded by the European Commision under Framework Programme 6 (FP6), which is designed to facilitate the mass manufacture of miniature/micro products across Europe.

This includes access to a series of methods for the design and analysis of micro-forming processes, materials, tools and machinery.

It will also enable an integrated manufacturing facility for the customised mass manufacture of miniature products, which integrates design, analysis, testing, tool fabrication, forming, machining, assembly and inspection.

Another major objective of the project is to transform industry across the EU states by offering technology transfer solutions that are designed to enhance training and develop cutting edge solutions within manufacturing organisations.
