Optics turn to plastics welding

A NanoVia product story

NanoWeld DPSS is a patent-pending laser beam shaper and scanner technology for laser micro-level spot welding, seam welding and medical plastic bonding applications.

NanoWeld DPSS is a patent-pending laser beam shaper and scanner technology for laser micro-level spot welding, seam welding and medical plastic bonding applications.

NanoVia is introducing its technology to the laser micro welding marketplace for applications where uneven beam intensities and overlapping scanning zones create undesired welds or bonds.

NanoWeldptics can be integrated with user-selectable beam pattern shapes and scanning sequences appropriate for different stitch or seam weld requirements.

Other beam shape patterns include circular and rectangular shaped laser patterns or circular arrays of beam focal points for welding medical assemblies and critical telecommunications packages.

The optical techniques allow for a homogeneous beam profile at the surface, providing superior control of pulse-to-pulse beam fluctuations that often occur during micro-welding operations.

Custom designs are possible to ensure tailored beam shape profiles and focal point intensities, fitting individual and specific requirements, for example, welding dissimilar metals like stainless and tungsten for micro lamp applications.

"Micro welding and bonding applications can be greatly improved by using our optics technology.

NanoWeld provides a new level of control for micro weld formation and can be incorporated as both a shaping and an imaging optic, or simply as a shaping element at the output of the laser", explains Todd Lizotte, Vice President of R and D at NanoVia, LP.

"Further designs are compatible with fibre-based delivery systems".
