Mixer claims a revolution
The Cyclone is the appropriate name for the industry's first magnetically driven, bottom mounted, high shear mixer.
The Cyclone is the appropriate name for the industry's first magnetically driven, bottom mounted, high shear mixer This unique high shear mixer not only eliminates the issues related to flanges which penetrate the production vessel wall, but also minimises maintenance times and facilitates cleaning in place of the complete mixer assembly, thus eliminating the downtime associated with the disassembling of mixers for cleaning
In short the Novaseptic Cyclone is claimed to dramatically increase productivity as well as reducing validation times.
Small batch volumes can be processed due to the mixing head position within the vessel, which will have the positive affect of minimising the costs associated with product wastage.
Fear of product contamination in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and food industries is not a new phenomenon, but due to increasing product value, the problem is of growing concern.
Spoiled batches, increasing costs, the disruption of production schedules and, at worst, product recall can be the devastating consequences of poor cleaning techniques associated with top mounted and flange connected mixing systems.
Advances in sealing techniques, using methods such as cartridge and gas seals can only control leakage, not guarantee zero ingress/egress over the lifetime of a product.
For many applications therefore, the solution lies in seal-free magnetic mixing technology, thus ensuring total integrity of the tank.
This capability has been available for some time, and Novaseptic's GMP range of mixers (typically running between 50 and 400rev/min) have been used for over 10 years for applications in the blending of liquid products such as injectables, infusion solutions, plasma fractions and bacteria and cell cultures.
Not surprisingly, therefore, it is the coming of age of biotechnology and the resultant increase in biopharma processing that has thrown the spotlight on seal-free technology.
Up until now Novaseptic's GMP mixers have been at the forefront within an industry requiring vigorous mixing and gentle blending of liquid volumes from 10 to 30,000 litre.
However, where an application for processes such as homogenising, emulsifying and other high shear applications has been the requirement, then the industry has reverted back to "old" techniques such as top mounted high shear units, which were primarily designed for laboratory applications.
That is until now.
The Novaseptic Cyclone high shear mixer is engineered for optimal performance, reliability, durability and ease of maintenance.
Due to the unique, open design of the rotor and stator, all surfaces that come into contact with the product are easily cleaned in place, a unique luxury not afforded with the traditional high shear mixers.
The Cyclone was specifically designed to operate in aseptic pharmaceutical processes and can operate at speeds of up to 3000rev/min.
The Cyclone can also be combined with the standard GMP Novaseptic magnetically driven mixer to achieve total flexibility, such as collapsing of vortex to prevent foaming, increased agitation and to maintain suspensions at low levels.
Again the ability to clean and steam in place are inherent advantages when compared to the traditional high shear mixers which run in conjunction with counter rotors, which has until now, been the industry norm. Request a free brochure from Millipore ...
