National Instruments has announced the winners of the best annual project award at the NI Instrumentation and Control Laboratory at The Institute of Technology, Sligo.

National Instruments has announced the winners of the best annual project award at the NI Instrumentation and Control Laboratory at The Institute of Technology, Sligo The NI Achievement Award for Best Project in National Diploma in Industrial Automation for Full-Time Students was presented to Christoph Koch and Andrew Taylor

The project focused on measurement, control and calibration of airflow using a hot-wire anemometer.

The NI Achievement Award for Part-Time Students was given to Padraig Marren for his work on PID PWM temperature control of an airflow heating system.

Both projects involved NI LabView software and NI FieldPoint distributed I/O hardware products.

"The collaboration with leading equipment manufacturers and suppliers, such as National Instruments, is a vital element in the Institutes strategy to maintain the highest possible standards of delivery and relevance to the industry for its courses", said Frank Carter, Head of the Department of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering.

The NI Achievement Awards, combined with sponsorship of the National Instruments Laboratory, are part of a five-year collaboration between NI and The Institute of Technology, Sligo.

"Encouraging the engineers of tomorrow is extremely important to National Instruments", said Katherine Robinson, NI UK Academic Programme Manager.

"We are excited about the ongoing relationship and the opportunity to recognise outstanding achievements with The Institute of Technology, Sligo, and look forward to working similarly with key academic institutions across Ireland and the UK".

The School of Engineering at the Institute of Technology, Sligo is recognised throughout the industry for the high calibre of engineering graduates and for working in close partnership with industry.

The extent of co-operation with industry is evident in that in excess of 75 companies take the Instituteûs engineering students on placement, annually.

A pool of 200 companies has taken engineering placement students in the past 5 years.
