NavisWorks Ltd is announcing the company's latest release and membership of the Open Design Alliance.

NavisWorks Ltd, the developer of interactive viewing technology and the leading 3D computer aided design review solution, is announcing the company's latest release and membership of the Open Design Alliance whose program libraries enabled the development of the new MicroStation V8.DGN reader that features in NavisWorks3 version 3.4 This latest version offers continuing improvements in file format compatibility and maintains the aim of delivering the most effective review solution for both 3D CAD and non-CAD users who wish to conveniently communicate design ideas to others

Version 3.4 further extends the interoperability of NavisWorks3, universal access to view; walkthrough and coordinate 3D design models regardless of file size or format and without the need for 3D design software.

The new release enhances or adds support for MicroStation V8, ArchiCAD 8.1, Revit 6, elcoCAD v4 and 3DS Max 5 and 6 in NavisWorks3 Roamer, the dynamic core of the design review solution.

NavisWorks3 has a scaleable plug-in architecture based on Roamer3 and version 3.4 introduces enhancements in the increasingly popular new TimeLiner3 plug-in that adds a new dimension of realism to 3D model data with links to tasks that harness time to effectively visualise construction schedules.

Delivering easy, affordable and accessible 4D construction simulation, TimeLiner3 is the latest NavisWorks3 plug-in component for building and site planning.

TimeLiner3 offers all key project stakeholders a clear common understanding of design intent, construction plan and current status.

Those already using NavisWorks3 TimeLiner find it straightforward to produce construction simulations with either task schedules created in TimeLiner3 or imported from Microsoft Project, Primavera P3 and Asta Powerproject or any software exporting.MPX format such as Primavera SureTrak and Crest CS Project.

Version 3.4 improvements include additional global options, better project software compatibility and enhanced simulation display.

These developments have been in response to customer feedback and demonstrate the continuing commitment NavisWorks has to forward thinking users.

Announcing the release of Version 3.4 Peter Thompson, managing director of NavisWorks Ltd said, "Every NavisWorks release is designed to both enhance existing user benefits as well as make us more attractive to a wider audience.

"With this release we have reached our goal of offering enhanced support for MicroStation V8 users.

"The new V8.DGN reader results from intense development work based upon program libraries furnished by the Open Design Alliance and opens up the.DGN format for non-CAD users.

"The existing V8 exporter has also been improved so NavisWorks3 version 3.4 offers benefit to Bentley users, their collaborators and clients".

Thompson stressed that the aim was widest compatibility and thus version 3.4 also updates support for Graphisoft with an ArchiCAD 8.1 exporter and 3DS Max 5 and 6 exporters.

He concluded "The latest NavisWorks3 release is an elegant solution that allows everybody to review MicroStation files and means 3D.DWG and.DGN files along with most popular design formats can be reviewed in the same scene at the same time".

Previously NavisWorks3 only offered an exporter for V8 so version 3.4 now opens up the DGN format for non-CAD users.

- The existing NavisWorks3 V8 exporter has also been improved to support some V8 specific features including nested reference files, element ids and feature solids.

- NavisWorks3 support for Graphisoft continues with an updated ArchiCAD exporter to the latest 8.1 version.

3DS Max 5 and 6 exporters added in addition to our existing Viz exporter.

- TimeLiner3 has been enhanced by additional global options, better project software compatibility and improved simulation display.

- Support added for elcoCAD v4 properties.

- Support added for basic Revit 6 properties for.DWGs exported from Revit.
