Sue and Ian Gaskell spent their honeymoon at the MACH 2002 exhibition and bought themselves a GBP 140,000 wedding present of the latest 13-axis, Citizen M16 CNC sliding head automatic lathe.

Sue and Ian Gaskell, both directors of Somerset based NC Precision, spent their honeymoon at the MACH 2002 exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham and bought themselves a GBP 140,000 wedding present in the shape of the latest 13-axis, Citizen M16 CNC sliding head automatic lathe The decision to buy followed negotiations on the NC Engineering stand at MACH by the two owners of the Chard company which was set up in July 1999 with an old Citizen F10 lathe

While the original machine was bought at an auction, it was closely followed by a new Citizen L20 bought some 18 months later.

Both Sue and Ian are engineers and now supply customers with parts between 0.2 and 20mm diameter to the fibre optic, fastener, pressure gauge and medical industries as well as making turned parts for model steam engines.

But why spend a honeymoon at MACH 2002? Says Ian Gaskell: "We are so busy we can't afford time off so we combined the honeymoon and machine purchase shopping trip into one".

The M16 bought directly from the NC Engineering stand was installed straight after the exhibition.

It takes pride of place in their new machine shop which replaces their original garage workshop at the back of their house where their turning business started. Request free introductory details about products from Citizen Machinery UK ...
