Infra-red gauge measures moisture in the web

A NDC Infrared Engineering product story

The new FS710 online infra-red gauge is designed specifically to measure the total integrated moisture content, through a web of material, irrespective of stratification, in paper, board and converting applications.

The gauge enables users to improve the consistency of their moisture profile, for better product quality, process productivity and profitability.

FS710 may be installed in a fixed position, to provide MD trends, or it may be scanned and the output integrated into a system for displaying both MD and CD profiles.

The gauge effectively measures moisture in the range of 0-12% and 40-400g/m2 basis weight.

Customised for each application, the optical configuration of the gauge includes selected filters for optimum sensitivity to relevant parameters.

Unaffected by changes in lighting, humidity and temperature, FS710 is ideal for use in typical operating environments and is supplied sealed to IP65 for protection against water and dust.

"FS710 is ideal for measuring the integrated moisture content of heavier weight products or products where the moisture content is highly stratified", explains James Millard, Marketing Manager, NDC Infrared Engineering.

"Coating and drying processes affect consistency of the final product; overdrying is a common problem.

FS710 allows users to control the drying process, achieve consistent product quality and improve product performance.

Through this, users can broaden their markets or even enter a new market.

For example, converters not producing 'lay-flat' products would be excluded from markets where curl is a particular issue.

Online gauging helps users achieve moisture consistency which in turn helps to prevent curl".

The reduction in raw material wastage and energy consumption achieved by using FS710 - as a knock on effect of consistent product quality - also leads to significant cost savings for the user and improved profitability.

FS710 offers high precision measurements, simple calibration, minimal maintenance and an ultra high-speed data collection rate of 3ms.

Designed to connect with other NDC Infrared Engineering products, such as scanning frames and control systems, FS710 can be easily integrated into customer process lines and systems to form complete measurement and control solutions.

All products are manufactured at NDC Infrared Engineering's ISO9001:2000 certified facility for optimum product performance and reliability.
