New analyser for on-line measurement
New Analyser for on-line measurement of Biscuit Moisture helps producers to control the process and avoid downstream moisture issues
NDC announces a new model in its well-established 710 Series of on-line analysers for the foods industry The BG710 gauge has been developed exclusively for volume biscuit manufacturers to improve process and quality control by generating highly accurate real-time measurements of the moisture content of biscuits in the cooling section after they leave the conveying oven

High speed measurement of coat-weight and moisture
A new on-line gauge, IG710 from NDC Infrared Engineering offers unparalleled accuracy and high speed measurement of coat-weight/film thickness and moisture.
The BG710 uses non-contacting NIR (near infrared) measurement technology in conjunction with a unique High Speed Gating system.
Using simple functions via the colour touch-screen Operator Interface, the BG710 "learns" the height of the biscuit relative to the conveyor.
The Gating system, with a response time of 1.25 milliseconds, then automatically activates and de-activates the moisture measurement as the biscuits pass beneath by detecting their leading and trailing edges.
On a typical volume production line, the BG710 makes over 50 measurements per biscuit.
This high resolution measurement enables the user, by means of comparative sampling, to accurately adjust the BG710 measurement to agree with his local approved labouratory moisture reference method (such as gravimetric oven) thereby obviating the need for routine grab-sampling and providing a calibrated real-time moisture output displayed on the Operator Interface.
For integration into supervisory or closed-loop control systems via PLC, the BG710 measurement output is also available in a choice of formats, ranging from a scalable analogue output to full network connectivity (Profibus, Modbus Plus, DeviceNet, Ethernet).
The BG710 presents the biscuit industry with an opportunity to improve process efficiency and ensure downstream product quality parameters, such as shelf-life and avoidance of moisture stressing, are avioded by introducing real-time moisture control.
