Worm gears offer extended lifetimes
Nord Gear's worm units are particularly robust and also mount in any orientation, making them a particularly versatile solution for conveyor applications.
Nord Gear UK has released a range of high-reliability worm gears Fitted with oversized bearings, the right-angle gear units provide extended life in electromechanical automation applications such as conveyors and will interface with any standard IEC motor
Modular design principles allow the Universal Worm range of worm gears to be customised using a broad range of standard accessories, to provide optimised power transmission for virtually any application environment.
Worm gears are suitable wherever large gear reductions are required.
As standard, Universal Worm units can be supplied with drive ratios from 5:1 to 100:1.
With an optional helical gear pre-stage, ratios of up to 3,000:1 are achievable.
Nord Gear's worm units are particularly robust and also mount in any orientation, making them a particularly versatile solution for conveyor applications.
The competitively priced worm gears - or complete geared motors - are available ex-stock from Nord Gear UK's Abingdon facility, assembled to order.
Universal Worm gear units are housed in a single-piece diecast aluminium enclosure, provided with lifetime lubrication.
The rigid housing has no cover or sealing joints, ensuring the highest degree of operational safety, even with the highest load capacity.
The generously sized bearings further extend reliability, even when subjected to large overhung or thrust loads.
Quiet running and high efficiency are additional attributes of the gear units.
This performance stems from a range of factors including the single-piece housing which provides great rigidity, hydrodynamic lubrication and a proprietary gear production process that delivers very smooth meshing.
Efficiency levels for units with standard gear ratios are as high as 93%.
The design allows the motor torque on geared motor variants to be transmitted through a flexible coupling.
This reduces noise and increases uptime, eliminating fretting damage that might otherwise result from shaft misalignment.
Universal Worm units offer foot mounting on three sides, B14 face mounts on two sides and a hollow output shaft.
Nord Gear's range of accessories ensures that a wide variety of individual worm gear designs can be assembled using just a few modular parts, giving great design flexibility, as well as interchangeability with other European manufacturers for repair and refurbishment applications.
Among the gear configuration accessories are plug-in shafts, bolt-on type flanges and torque arms.
Encoders, brakes and forced ventilation accessories can also be assembled in the UK.
These and other add-on components allow gear units to be adapted easily to suit virtually any application.
Assembly of gear units takes just a few minutes and Nord Gear's Abingdon, UK facility carries a large stock of the basic worm housings and worm gears and the accessory range, allowing application-specific solutions to be built and shipped the same day if required.
The service includes the assembly of complete geared motors.
Nord Gear's facility also includes an automated painting line, allowing worm gears or geared motors to be delivered in an OEM's livery, ready for assembly into the finished product.
