Netzsch Nemo Pumps have extended their SH/BH range of progressing cavity pumps for the food and drink industry with the introduction of the 'Hygienic Plus' range, featuring flexible shaft technology Unlike conventional coupling rods with open pin joints that are subject to wear, Hygienic Plus pumps have no wearing parts in the driveline

Commenting on the new pumps Netzsch Nemo UK managing director Roger Willis says they are designed to extend customers' choice in applications where risk analysis requires the highest attainable levels of hygiene, or where the reliability of the pump is critical to the process.

He adds that the flexible rod technology comes from the company's aseptic range and has been transferred to the hygienic range following requests from customers.

As with other Netzsch Nemo hygienic pumps the new range has been awarded a 3A Certificate and meets or exceeds as standard the requirements of EC Machinery directive 98/37/EEC; EN809 10/98; EN 12462 10/98; ISO 14159; 3A standards (especially 02-09, 18-00); and FDA regulations.

Hygienic Plus pumps also include the same innovative features that minimize dead areas and improve flow characteristics through the pump, as well as simplifying maintenance.

The pump body is now bolted to the bearing housing, forming an integral pressure containing component and separating the bearing housing from the process pressure.

As well as providing additional rigidity and easier access for maintenance, the design allows the pump to operate in forward or reverse directions at the same pressure.

The tie rods, which in conventional designs run the length of the pump and can tighten or loosen due to changes in temperature, now only retain the stator.

Besides allowing Hygienic Plus pumps to operate over a wider range of temperatures, this feature also makes maintenance much easier and simplifies the fitting of heating jackets.

The 22-pump range covers capacities from approximately 25 litres/hr to 120 mü/hr and pressures up to 12 bar.

Models are available in close or long coupled configurations and can be specified with a number of single and double mechanical seals and different process connections.

Among the options available are CIP ports, reduced wall thickness stators and ceramic rotors.

All surfaces in contact with the product are polished to WN0113 (the equivalent of DIN11480 and 3A-02).

The surface finish is >0.8 micron.
