"A highly structured Alkyd resin, supplied in 200 litre open top drums, is used in some of our products.
This had previously been 'dug out' manually, leaving unacceptable levels of residue waste.
Due to the high level of manual handling, and the potential health and safety risks associated with the operation, an automated solution was sought.
"The automated Netzsch Nemo barrel emptying unit has helped us address both manual handling and waste issues." The barrel emptying unit uses a piston to push the resin down into the drum and a pump fitted to the central shaft, to draw the resin out.
The outlet from the pump then pipes the resin down the line to paint mixing vessels.
The machine is operated with the single press of a button and when the pump completes a full cycle the machine returns to the ready position.
The Netzsch Nemo pump provides pulse free delivery at a maximum discharge rate of 40 litres per minute.
Barrel emptying units are available with fixed or variable speed, pump drive motors for 20 and 200 litre barrel capacities.
The units are suitable for emptying plain or channel barrels and, because they can accurately meter product directly from the barrel, can also be used to feed equipment such as the Nemo Robo-Dispenser, dosing pumps and filling valves.
Standard units are available in steel, stainless steel and lacquered finishes, and special finishes for the food processing industry.
