Netzsch Nemo have supplied two of their SY range progressing cavity pumps to Brown and Root AOC as part of a project to modify the Clyde oilfield platform for Talisman.

The Brown and Root contract involves topside process modifications to the Clyde platform, including provision of a riser enabling it to receive a sub-sea tie-in from the smaller Orion oilfield.

The SY pumps, which are designed to the oil industry API 676 Standard, are used to drain down the production separator when the Orion field is shut down.

The Brown and Root specification includes a special cartridge mechanical seal to achieve the required 10 bar design pressure and 15 bar test pressure; and a cyclone separator - designed to the oil industry API Plan 31 - that separates dirty solids from the pumped liquids and re-uses the clean liquid to flush the seal.
