Crane drives suit more varied applications
The air or hydraulic powered geared travel units from J D Neuhaus were designed for use with crane bridges and hoists, but have been used for driving wheeled bogeys running on floor mounted rails.
They are also extremely robust and resistant to high humidity, aggressive atmospheres and extremes of temperature.
A key feature of their construction is a clean, protrusion-free design which makes them ideally suited to applications requiring constant rigging and derigging, either in the vertical or horizontal plane.
Three models are available in the range covering load capacities from three to twelve tonnes, all of which can be supplied with either one or two chain strands.

Purpose designed low-headroom hoist introduced
A purpose designed low-headroom hoist has been added to their range by J D Neuhaus, a two tonne unit catering for big bag handling or loads up to one metre in width
Cranes designed for hazardous environments
Cranes designed for safe operation in the chemical industry, or wherever the lifting or transportation of loads in hazardous atmospheres are envisaged, can be supplied by J D Neuhaus Ltd.
All units are compact and easily transportable for use wherever a suitable anchor point is available.
They are also suitable for horizontal dragging or pulling, ideal where damaged, failed or otherwise obtrusive equipment needs to be removed but straightforward lifting is not a viable option.
Under these conditions, the hoist mid section is designed to accommodate some misalignment when the chain is not being used on a true axis.
An instant starting vane motor is used which operates at a four bar nominal air pressure.
When the motor is switched off, or in the event of loss of air supply, a spring-loaded disc brake automatically operates to safely hold any suspended load in position.
The hoists have been upgraded to incorporate the latest deltaP overload protection, which monitors and compares inlet/outlet air pressures.
Two pendant controllers available for these hoists also incorporate pressure regulators to prevent the hoist mechanism being subject to inadmissibly high inlet air pressures.
This also ensures that recommended load levels cannot be exceeded.
The type PS controller is designed for single hand operation with pushbuttons which automatically return to zero, and an emergency stop is also incorporated.
A type DS controller for two-handed operation is also available.
Quick assembly components ensure easy dismantling and maintenance, while all casings are high quality iron-carbon castings suitable for the toughest operating conditions.
Gearing features oil bath or grease filled lubrication, dependent upon the model.
Motor lubrication is also automatic, while exhaust air is directed over the mid section for chain lubrication to prevent dirt ingress.
