Shallow gearcase version for marine gearbox

A Newage Transmissions product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 15, 2000

The PRM1500S marine gearbox is a twin countershaft design compatible with left or right hand propeller rotations - for both single and twin engine installations.

Newage's recently-appointed distributor, DDZ Marine of Largs, is exhibiting the all-new shallow gearcase version of the PRM1500 series marine gearbox for the first time in Scotland on Stand A089 at the forthcoming Fishing 2000 exhibition - to be held in Glasgow between 30th March and 1st April.

The PRM1500S marine gearbox is a twin countershaft design compatible with left or right hand propeller rotations - for both single and twin engine installations.

It is available in six standard reduction ratios, 1.22:1, 1.56:1, 1.94:1, 2.25:1, 2.45: and 3.0:1, and allows maximum input torque of 1500 Nm to be transmitted continuously in either direction at a maximum input speed of 2500 rev/min.

Carrying a Lloyd's approved published rating, the new unit offers a 40 kg weight saving over equivalent deep ratio PRM1500 models, which are offered with double reduction gearing in four standard ratios from 3.1:1 to 5.0:1.

All PRM 1500 gearboxes are supplied with integral SAE housings as standard and incorporate maintenance-free, oil-operated multi-disc clutches, which are engaged by a single lever compatible with proprietary remote control operating systems.

The need for special purpose automatic transmission fluid is eliminated by the use of engine oil specification lubricant and a pressure modulated selection valve ensures smooth drive engagement in both ahead and astern.

The gearcase is manufactured from high grade cast iron, which is internally ribbed for extra rigidity and strength.

In addition, the oil pump and hydraulic control valves on all PRM1500 models are mounted externally for easy access and servicing.

Two optional clutched power take-offs - compatible with SAE classification hydraulic pumps - are available to drive on-board machinery.

Further optional equipment for the new models includes an electrically operated control valve; incorporating a trolling valve facility that allows variable propeller speeds from 1200 rev/min down to zero.

This item is fully inter-changeable with the standard control valve and can be retrofitted in service.
