A Nexans product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 5, 2005

Nexans has received an order to supply power and control cables for the high grade railway cars of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway Project.

Nexans has received an order from Bombardier-Sifang-Power Transportation (BSP) to supply power and control cables for the high grade railway cars of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway Project.

A total of 222 cars will be used in the Qinghai-Tibet Railway Project.

To ensure railway operations in harsh and freezing condition, Nexans low-temperature power cables provide energy in extremely cold temperatures.

Nexans cables can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to +125C, which ensures the railway operation along the line.

Nexans control cables offer fire protection for people and equipment through halogen-free, fire-retardant (HFFR) materials.

Nexans will supply 1210km of its Flamex 750 power cables and 1114km of its Flamex SH20 control cables.

Besides high quality, the fast delivery also helped Nexans to win the order.

In the first phase of the project, Nexans will supply BSP with its power and control cables to be installed in 173 high grade cars.

All these cables will be manufactured by Nexans plants in Bohain and Paillart, France.

The first batch of Nexans cables should be delivered to Shanghai in June 2005, and the delivery of the rest is expected to be completed by the end of 2005.

The first trainset (eight cars) for the railway line will be delivered in October 2005.

Moreover, Nexans is also negotiating with BSP to supply cables for a further 49 cars in a second phase.
