69 years young Kynoch Todd, Health and Safety Officer for Glendale Engineering, has passed the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
69 years young Kynoch Todd, Health and Safety Officer for Glendale Engineering, has passed the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
He is the most senior person to attain this qualification since the introduction of the revised certificate.
Glendale Engineering is a leading company in the fields of steel-framed building construction and farm machinery, based in Wooler, Northumberland.
Kynoch is currently responsible for method statements and risk assessments.
He feels the qualification enables him to demonstrate an understanding of relevant legislation and health and safety practices required for his job.
In addition to working three days a week for Glendale, Kynoch also carries out risk assessments for several agricultural events.
Kynoch feels that older people will continue to work past retirement age and offer valuable experience gained over a lifetime of varied work.
He thoroughly enjoys working in this interesting and varied field.
Kynoch studied for the qualification at High Gain Business Consultancy, a subsidiary of Northumberland College, and describes the course as demanding but rewarding.
Dr Stephen Vickers, chief executive of NEBOSH, comments, "The National General Certificate is a nationally recognised health and safety qualification which has been taken by over 94,000 candidates since its introduction and we are delighted that the award attracts such a diverse range of people".
