Optinut provides alternative to rivet nuts

A Northern Precision product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 22, 2008

The multi-grip Optinut from Northern Precision is designed to provide a cost-effective, multi-use alternative to traditional rivet nuts, with additional end-of-life recycling benefits.

With up to 40 per cent improved thread performance and controlled 'bulge' technology, Optinut offers users everything a standard rivet nut cannot, said Northern Precision.

Available as standard in 23B2 material, Optinut is supplied in standard and large flange head styles with optional knurled body.

It offers a wider grip than conventional rivet nuts: M6 up to 6mm; M8 up to 8mm and so on.

It is CR3 plated as standard, giving 96-hour to white rust.

A single Optinut covers two or more grip ranges, enabling users to reduce inventories, eliminate tool change, reset times and minimise the danger of using an incorrect nut.

Optinut produces a bulge with a much larger diameter than conventional rivet nuts and has a controlled upset point, making it ideal for joining soft materials, composites and sandwich sections.

Automotive customised versions are available where bulge control offers manageable mechanical upset for a specific application or design.
