Modular design for industrial microscopes

A Nikon UK product story

To satisfy and encourage ever changing and expanding applications, Nikon has introduced the new LV Series of industrial microscopes.

Based on a modular design concept, the LV range can be perfectly matched to even the most diverse and challenging of applications in the semiconductor, microelectronics, electronics, materials science, medical device and metallurgical sectors.

At the heart of the new LV Series are Nikon's acclaimed CFI60 optics.

In conjunction with new illuminators and objectives, these deliver enhanced overall optical performance and even sharper images for all the major illumination techniques.

The LV150 and the LV150A, which has an automated nosepiece, are designed solely for episcopic techniques, whereas the LV100D provides the added flexibility of diascopic illumination.

These options mean users can build a system capable of harnessing first-order red compensator, UV polarising and epi-fluorescence, in addition to: brightfield; darkfield; DIC; simple polarising; epi-fluorescence, using visible light; and double-beam interferometry.

Applications dependent on UV wavelengths will benefit from the improved transmission rates conferred by the new CFI Plan Fluor series objectives.

Specifically designed for the LV Series, these provide brighter, sharper sample images with reduced background flare when combined with the vastly improved signal to noise ratio of the optical system.

Maintaining Nikon's tradition for high numerical apertures and long working distances, the CFI60 Plan Fluor's are also ideal for a wide range of advanced illumination techniques.

Furthermore, as the illumination for diascopic and episcopic illumination is provided by a 50W lamp that is equally as bright as previous 100W sources, the new LV Series models reduce the level of heat emitted, which aids in maintaining temperatures in controlled environments.

To accommodate the widest possible range of samples, microscopes within the LV Series can be fitted with a column riser to increase the maximum sample size from 47 to 82mm.

There is also a comprehensive range of stages that allow users to completely tailor their system to their own exact requirements.

To aid live and high quality image capture and analysis, the LV Series can be easily configured with Nikon DS-2 or DS-5 Series digital cameras.

If required, these can be set up in direct-to-print mode, avoiding the need for a PC.

As would be expected, the new models are thoroughly protected against electrostatic discharge.
